Law Society Codes of Conduct
Generally speaking, all members of the legal profession are required to conduct themselves in accordance with the following basic principles, among others:
- Act honourably and with integrity;
- Provide competent legal services;
- Serve clients in a courteous and prompt manner;
- Respect client confidences;
- Maintain loyalty to clients and avoid conflicts of interest;
- Ensure that fees for services are fair and reasonable;
- Safeguard and preserve funds and property entrusted to them by their clients;
- When acting as advocate, treat Courts with civility and respect; and
- Encourage public respect for the administration of justice.
