The Federation does not issue licences to foreign lawyers who wish to be licenced as Foreign Legal Consultants (or practitioners) in Canada. Foreign lawyers (or Canadians who are members of a foreign law society/bar association) who wish to become licenced as Foreign Legal Consultants should communicate directly with the Law Society in which he or she wishes to be licenced.
The Federation produces a research document which shows the regulatory provisions adopted by Law Societies with respect to Foreign Legal Consultants.
Appendix 3 of the Interjurisdictional Practice Protocol executed in February 1994 by the Law Societies suggests a regulatory regime by which FLCs can be licenced by the Canadian Law Societies.
On their websites, the Law Society of Alberta , the Law Society of Manitoba and the Law Society of Upper Canada provide comprehensive instructions on how to be licenced as a FLC in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.
