Council Member representing the Law Society of British ColumbiaGavin Hume was appointed a Council member by the Law Society of British Columbia in November 2010. He is a senior member in the Harris and Company LLP office in Vancouver, focusing on labour relations and employment law. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree, then earned his Bachelor of Laws in 1967. Gavin became a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in 1968. Gavin was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1992. He has served as a Bencher of the Law Society of B.C. since 2004, and is the law society’s President for 2011. He also chairs the law society’s Ethics Committee and Finance Committee. He has also authored numerous articles and papers on employment and labour issues. Gavin is a founding member and Past President of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers, and is Past President and Honourary Life Member of the Human Resources Management Association of B.C. He is the honorary counsel for the Y.M.C.A. of Greater Vancouver, and currently serves as a Director. He served as well as Chair of the Y.M.C.A. Endowment Fund for eight years. Y.M.C.A. Canada also appointed Gavin as Officer of the Y.M.C.A. Fellowship of Honour. Gavin Hume, Q.C.
