Babak Barin


Council Member representing the Barreau du Québec

Babak Barin was appointed to the Federation Council by the Barreau du Québec in November 2011. He is a Partner in the Montreal office of Mercier Leduc LLP, focusing on domestic and international dispute resolution. 
Mr. Barin is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law of the Université de Sherbrooke, and is an instructor at the Ecole du Barreau du Québec. He has written and lectured extensively in the fields of domestic and international commercial arbitration, and continues to sit as a sole and party-nominated arbitrator in a number of international and domestic disputes.
Mr. Barin was educated in Europe, the United States of America and Canada. He became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1994, a member of the Barreau du Québec in 2002, and in 2006 was admitted to the Alberta Bar. He was also admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2001.
Mr. Barin is the President of the Equivalence Committee of the Barreau du Québec and was the Québec representative on the Federation of Law Societies of Canada Task Force on the Canadian Common LawDegree. He serves currently as Chair of the International Bar Association's Mediation Committee, and is a member of the Board of Directors of TV5 Québec-Canada, chairing the television network’s Strategic Planning Committee,
